Projects
A collection of projects - ongoing and completed - that I've worked on throughout the years. Some of these were for work, others for pleasure. Projects are sorted chronologically. The pages below will lead you to the write-ups, and any projects that include code can also be found on my GitHub page.
Completed Projects
Robotics Software Engineer Nanodegree Program (2018)
I was one of several content developers working on the Robotics Nanodegree program at Udacity. I'm happy to say that content for both terms of the program have been released, and we're receiving positive feedback from our students.
Underwater ROV (2017)
I developed a new project for two undergraduate courses (ME & MTE 380), where groups of 4-5 students construct and improve upon the design of an ROV. Mechanical students are tasked with upgrading a mechanical system, while Mechatronics students are challenged with developing a control system to autonomously traverse an underwater obstacle course..
Bucktooth Burl - 250lb Combat Robot (2016)
My team and I participated in BattleBots Season 2 with Bucktooth Burl, our 250lb combat robot. Over the months of February and March of 2016, we spent many long nights working away at the shop - plasma cutting sheets of steel, machining away our weapon, and testing electronics. Then in April, we traveled to LA to take part in the competition.
Poker Table (2016)
My husband absolutely loves poker. This is evident by the amount of our bookshelf space allocated to poker books. However, we've never had our own table. After no one gifted him a poker table for our wedding, he set out to build his own and I was happy to help with the project.
Lamp (2016)
Instructables recently released something called 'Classes'. It's a platform similar to Coursera and Udacity, but focused on teaching hands-on skills. I enrolled in some of their classes, browsed around, and one Sunday decided to start by making a lamp!
CAN Data Logger & Diagnostic Tool (2015)
I designed a CAN-Bus Data Logger & Diagnostic Tool for an industrial application. The device attaches to an electric mining vehicle and records operating data such as battery voltage & amperage, motor performance, the speed of the vehicle, and a number of other parameters.
Laser Cutting (2014)
I've always been intrigued about all of the different things that I can make with a laser cutter, so I've taken some time to design board games, Christmas cards, and wedding decorations.
Palette Controller (2013)
Palette is a modular controller for graphic design, audio-editing and video-editing applications. It was developed as my team's final design project at the University of Waterloo. Calvin Chu has since turned Palette into a venture - palettegear.com.
Casting Rock Climbing Holds (2013)
I've started making my own rock climbing holds, as to save some money and create exactly what I need. Starting with designing the holds, making moulds, and casting them out of sand and resin.
3D Printing (2012)
With 3D printers everywhere I've had a fair bit of time to explore what can be built with one. Included here are a collection of 3D models for printing your own board games.
